Statement from Yonkers Mayor, Mike Spano.


Friends, 

This week, I had the privilege of being honored by my friends at Groundwork Hudson Valley with the 2019 Government Leader Award during its Annual Urban River Party.

For nearly a decade, I've been proud to work with Groundwork to re-green parts of our city impacted by historic pollution and brownfields. Together, we've daylighted the Saw Mill River, provided environmental education to thousands of Yonkers school students and created good, green jobs for our Yonkers youth.

Our latest project is the Yonkers Greenway which is transforming an abandoned railroad station stop into a revitalized park in southwest Yonkers. Soon, this Greenway will once again link Yonkers to New York City with a two-mile walking and biking path.

Special thanks to Groundwork Hudson Valley for taking the lead in making Yonkers a better, greener place to live, work and play!
