Dear Friend:
Climate change is a global crisis. We need to recognize that in the strongest possible terms.
Last week, I joined my colleagues in cosponsoring H.Con.Res. 52, a resolution expressing the sense of Congress that there is a climate emergency which demands a massive-scale mobilization to halt, reverse, and address its consequences and causes.
For years I have said we need to take significant and immediate steps to fix the problem of our changing climate. I cosponsored legislation to get us off fossil fuels by the year 2035. I successfully added amendments to bills mandating the use of flex-fuel vehicles in our federal fleet. I cosponsored the Green New Deal the first possible day we could sign-on. And, as Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I was able to pass the only major climate change bill through the House, H.R. 9 the Climate Action Now Act.
This cannot wait. We need to reduce our carbon footprint, transform our energy sector, and create millions of new, green jobs for ourselves and our children's future.
