Dear Friend,

This race is about vision and values. And, it’s time for the candidates to rise above petty squabbles and infighting, and focus on the issues. That’s why today, I called for a democratic primary debate.
Voters deserve to hear the candidates stand alongside one another to discuss our ideas, and present our visions for Mount Vernon. We need less bickering and character attacks and more conversation around policy and our respective platforms.
The people of Mount Vernon want a leader who will bring integrity and effectiveness into the office. There is no better way for us to choose a Mayor than by comparing the character, suitability and effectiveness of each candidate in a true exchange of ideas.
I’ve called on my opponents to join me onstage so that voters can make an informed decision based on our policies and goals for the office. That’s the only way to demonstrate that we are truly up for the challenge.
I believe that Mount Vernonites need to hear us debate to determine who is the most willing, ready and able to tackle some of our community’s most persistent challenges.
