SENATORS MAYER & HARCKHAM TO HONOR VIETNAM VETERAN FRANK ROMEO FOR HIS ADVOCACY DURING MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH.
WHITE PLAINS, NY -- On Friday, May 10th, State Senators Shelley Mayer (SD-37) and Peter Harckham (SD-40) will be joined by Westchester County Director of the Veterans Service Agency, Ron Tocci, to honor Vietnam veteran Frank Romeo for his work educating students and bringing attention to the mental health challenges of veterans. Mr. Romeo has suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) for 50 years since serving in the Vietnam War. For the past 30 years, Mr. Romeo has worked to educate returning veterans as well as elected officials, communities, advocates, and young people about the debilitating impact of PTSD on the lives of veterans and their families. His comprehensive advocacy and work include school based curriculum and poignant art. In 2019, Mr. Romeo launched Walk with Frank, a 750 mile journey across New York State to raise awareness of the link between PTSD and homelessness in the veteran population. Senators Mayer and Harckham will present Mr. Romeo with a NYS Senate Liberty Medal for his work in service to veterans. Opportunity for questions and photos to follow.
