UPDATE FROM HECTOR SANTIAGO ON BEING ASSAULTED DURING A YONKERS CITY COUNCIL MEETING ON TERM LIMITS.

 

My court case was briefly mentioned on the Brian Lehrer show this past week. It’s important for me to give a factual update on my assault at Yonkers City Hall during the City Council meeting where they decided to extend term limits for themselves and the mayor.

 

On November 22nd, during this meeting, I was violently forced out of the council chambers and into the hallway where I was then punched in the face by a Yonkers Police officer whom later was revealed to be on the Mayor’s security detail. The council chambers was in complete chaos before and after the incident. After witnessing my council representative berate constituents in attendance I attempted to bring calm to the chamber and end the malicious back and forth by shouting “Vote already “. In a blink of an eye several unidentifiable individuals began grabbing and shoving me in all directions. One officer whom I recognized as he attempted to calm his colleagues down in the chamber, tried escorting me out to where we assumed was going to be a safe space. Once in the hallway the police aggression began again. Everything happened so fast. I was punched in the face, slammed against a wall and then body slammed to the ground. I had no idea what was actually happening. All of this excessive force and misuse of power while I had one arm in a sling from a recent rotator cuff surgery I had undergone just a few days prior.

 

The officer in question had to be ripped off of me as he was attempting to grab my neck after punching me in the face. All of which can be clearly seen on video footage from that night. As this wasn’t enough of an ordeal, I was then handcuffed while in a sling, arrested & held for 22 hours on Thanksgiving Eve at the Yonkers City Jail.

 

Since then I have had 21 court dates with the likelihood of a possible four more. Due to my years of activism and collaboration with local government every Yonkers judge recused themselves off the case. In addition, the County District Attorney recused her office because I worked on her campaign as the Yonkers Field Organizer. Currently, we are on trial in White Plains court with an Orange County district attorney and charges against me have changed multiple times. I’m now facing a disorderly conduct and harassment charge , neither which were on the original list of overblown charges. There are hundreds of thousands in taxpayers money being spent on all of this in mere attempts to charge me with at least a simple violation.

 

Not one political figure, whether present that night or not, has made a statement condemning the violence and ordeal I have suffered. Nor has the officer who assaulted me been held accountable or investigated. Everyone in an authoritative position is trying to pretend it never even happened, including Mayor Mike Spano.

 

While many continue to benefit from a system designed to silently crush people like me underneath it, i will move forward seeking justice and accountability . These types of political intimidation tactics may momentarily slow me down, but nothing will stop me from serving my community.

 

Ultimately, I want to thank my community and family immensely for their continued support through this difficult time. As well as those who have stood up for my name when the administration attempts to defame me in certain rooms. When all is said and done, we will be on top !

Psalms 73:1-3, 28 NKJV ‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

 

“Truly God is good to Israel, to such as are pure in heart. But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled; My steps had nearly slipped. For I was envious of the boastful, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. 

 

But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord God, That I may declare all Your works.” ‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

 

While at an event to officiate the installation of new officers and leaders, one guest struck up a conversation with me. We had never met prior to that day, but I think he knew I was a minster of the Gospel. After a few pleasantries, he blurted out, “Psalms 73:28!” I ask, “What does it say?,” to which he replied, “I don’t know.”

 

I took out my phone, went to one of my Bible apps and read, “But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord God, That I may declare all Your works.” Wow, I thought. What a profound verse of scripture. I read it many times in the past, but never after someone bought it to my attention so randomly. I felt compelled to take a closer look at this verse and the context in which it was stated.

 

Asaph was the author who wrote this chapter. He is taking an introspective look at himself and his own motivations. He speaks in the first few verses of this Psalm of his early stumbling. He was not stumbling over obstacles in the road but stumbling over his own envy and jealousy. He compared the prosperity and success of the wicked against his feeble attempt at keeping his heart pure. That comparison resulted in his becoming angry and discouraged.

 

But when he drew near to God in the sanctuary, his understanding shifted, his anger diminished, and his envy vanished. It was in the sanctuary that he began to understand the destiny of the wicked. He now understood that they were living on slippery slopes headed to a cliff of destruction. It would only take a minute, the twinkling of an eye, and they would be destroyed and swept away. When he changed his focus, his mind was transformed, he put his trust in the Lord, and he became a proclaimer of the goodness of God. His transformation is readily observable in the words chronicled in the verse of scripture shared with me at the installation service, “But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all Your works. The transformation that occurred in Asaph can happen to anyone who puts their trust in the Lord! ‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

OBITUARY Paul A. Heusler OCTOBER 27, 1943 – JUNE 21, 2023.

 

Paul A. Heusler passed away on Wednesday, June 21st.  He was 79 Years Old.

He was with his Sister Maggie Smith, Friend Geraldine Lamberto and Godchild Cynthia Froner, when he passed away Peacefully. He was in Hospital/Rehab for Close to 6 Months.

He is survived by his Loving Son, Delfim Heusler. Publisher of Yonkers Insider Online Newspaper. He also is Survived by his Sister Maggie Smith and Brother James Heusler of Georgia. Also His Cousin, Marie May of Colorado and Godchild Cynthia Froner and her daughter Vannary Lillman. Also his Nephews Matthew and Stephen Smith of Georgia, also Nephews Raymond, Gregory and Christopher Joao of Yonkers and Niece Theresa Anderson of Yorktown Heights and he is survived by Numerous other Nephews and Nieces. Also he is Survived by Friend Geraldine Lamberto as well.

He was born on October 27th, 1943 to Parents Paul & Paula Heusler. His Parents have PreDeceased Him. He was Married to his wife Constance Heusler who PreDeceased him as well in the Year of 2016 in Feb.

Paul worked for 40 Years at Manhattan College as a Maintenance Man in Physical Plant, The Workers at Manhattan College gave him a Nickname due to his hard work during his time there, they called him "Mr. Machine". On the Side for Many Years, he also did Landscaping in Riverdale and in Yonkers. His Father In Law Delfim Joao had shown him the Trade of Landscaping. Paul also loved the Jersey Shore and also loved spending time with the Lamberto Family.

Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Sunday 4-8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Christ the King Church on Monday June 26th at 10am. Final disposition will be private.

Yonkers Insider: New York Medical College’s Center for Disaster Medicine Hosts CONTOMS EMT-Tactical Course.

 

New York Medical College’s (NYMC) Center for Disaster Medicine (CDM) hosted the Counter Narcotics and Terrorism Operational Medical Support (CONTOMS) EMT-Tactical (EMT-T) Course during the week of June 12. The course is a one-week, 56-hour continuing education module to meet the need for specialized medical training to support law enforcement special operations. 

 

The class at comprised of approximately 40 EMTs, paramedics, firefighters, law enforcement officers and physicians from all over the country. The topics covered included medical threat assessment, downed officer rescue, care under fire, special equipment and kits, toxic hazards, sensory impairment, preventive medicine and medical support of specific operations. The course brings together multi-faceted training to responders that typically perform singular roles.

 

The urgency for law enforcement to be well-equipped in various emergency situations is increasing as active threats and deadly behaviors are becoming more prevalent since the shooting at Columbine High School in 1999. Last year, there were 46 school shootings – the most of any year since 1999.

 

“For years, law enforcement received little, if any, medical training, and emergency services received little, if any, tactical training,” said Tai M. Lee Jr., EMT-P/CIC, MEP, assistant director of the CDM.  “By continuously training and learning best-practices, law enforcement officers can provide initial care and emergency services to critically injured victims and evacuate them quickly. Embedding emergency services providers into the law enforcement special operations arena would provide immediate access to trauma care and build greater trust between the disciplines.”

 

The CDM designed a 12-month training calendar in which they alternate the types of training conducted geared towards the first responder community. The Center is also a National Association of EMTs (NAEMT) Training Center providing courses such as Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) and Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC).  As an American Red Cross Training Center, they offer courses, such as CPR/AED, First Aid and Severe Trauma (FAST), Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).  CDM also conducts an in-house course called Operational Medicine, which focuses on the fundamentals of trauma care, patient assessment in austere conditions and victim extraction.  As a continuation of Operational Medicine, CDM is currently working on developing a Rescue Task Force course, which will train law enforcement and other first responders to work together towards initial treatment and evacuation of victims of Active Threats and Deadly Behaviors incidents.  

 

Continuing to build upon the relationship and partnership with CONTOMS, the CDM plans to host their EMT-T Basic, EMT-T Advanced and Medical Directors’ Course at least once a year.

 

 

 “As a law enforcement and EMS educator, it is my personal mission to train our first responders with high-quality, high-impact training,” said Lee. “Having been a police officer and a paramedic for more than 20 years, the training we provide, whether hosted or conducted by the CDM, brings together the two disciplines by providing them both with the skills and abilities to better serve their communities.”

Trump’s refusal to return classified documents has drawn severe criticism from his former Cabinet secretaries.

Former Attorney General William Barr likened Trump’s behavior to that of a defiant child, and warned that if the allegations were true, Trump’s actions would amount to a flagrant crime.

Similarly, Trump’s former Secretary of Defense, Mark Esper, expressed concerns that the contents of the indictment, if proven true, could pose a risk to national security.

This news comes amidst a history of former aides and cabinet members turning against Trump after their tenure.

Despite this pattern, Trump’s hold over the Republican party remains strong, which continues to cause significant dilemmas for the party as Trump’s capacity to govern is questioned.

Meanwhile, Trump faces potential prosecution in relation to the aftermath of the 2020 election, an issue that continues to divide Republicans.

William Barr, while opposing Trump’s prosecution on some counts, has suggested that this case is unique because Trump brought it upon himself.

Since the pandemic started, rental costs in the U.S. have increased by 26%.

However, new research indicates that the growth of rent prices is slowing down.

In April, rent for single-family homes increased by 3.7% compared to the previous year, marking a year-long trend of decreases.

The reason for the high rental prices since the start of the pandemic in 2020 has been a lack of affordable housing and a high demand.

Despite inflation easing, it was still rising at double the Federal Reserve’s 2% annual target in May.

Charlotte, N.C. saw the fastest rent increase in the U.S., with a rise of nearly 7% in April compared to 2022.

Boston, Orlando, Chicago, New York, and St. Louis were among the top 20 cities with the fastest rental increases.

If you’re on a budget of $1,500 per month, you’ll get more living space in places like Wichita, Kansas; Toledo, Ohio; Oklahoma City and Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Memphis, Tennessee.

In contrast, that same amount of money will get you less than 400 square feet in cities like Boston, Manhattan, and San Francisco.
