The centenarians will be recognized with NYS Senate Resolutions adopted to commemorate their long and remarkable lives. Senator Mayer will present each centenarian with a resolution and celebrate their birthdays with their families and friends. Over 1,500 Backpacks and Over 5,000 Supplies Collected.

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano will join Superintendent of Schools Dr. Edwin Quezada, Board of Education Trustees, parents, students and staff of Paideia School 24 for the 8^th Annual “Backpack to School Drive” Wednesday, August 28^th at 12:00 PM at Paideia School 24-Gymnasium (2^nd Floor) located at 50 Colin Street, to distribute backpacks and school supplies received through the “Backpack to School Drive” to the students and families in attendance. 

Backpacks and School Supplies were donated by corporate and nonprofit sponsors including Precision Concierge New York (PCNY), Empire City Casino by MGM Resorts, Heavenly Productions Foundation, Elite Investigations LTD, Ridge Hill, Rock & Rod’s Collector Car Club, Castle Royale, Macaroni Kid-Yonkers and Yonkers residents.

Mom's Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.

This weekend was a big deal for countless New Yorkers like you and me. That's because a Red Flag law initially signed in February by Governor Cuomo finally took effect this past Saturday.

This law will save lives from gun violence in New York. It is designed to help law enforcement, concerned family members and school officials intervene quickly in dangerous situations. Far too many times, we've read stories that a shooter exhibited warning signs before committing acts of gun violence. Far too many times, there were moments where tragedies could've been prevented if there was a way for family members or law enforcement to intervene.

Thanks for all you do,An "Extreme Risk Protection Order" will do just that. It enables family or household members, police officers, or school administrators to ask the courts to temporarily restrict a person's access to guns when a person presents a risk to themselves or others. I fought hard for this victory along with other Moms Demand Action volunteers – and on Saturday our hard work paid off.

Yonkers Insider Interview Corner: Yonkers Insider Interviews New York State Assemblyman Nader Sayegh, 90th District, Representing Yonkers.

I had the absolute honor to interview and discuss with New York State Assemblyman Nader Sayegh in the 90th District on the issues and what he has done in the New York State Legislature in his first year in Elected Office, Representing Yonkers in Albany.

In our view, Assemblyman Sayegh has provided real results and real accomplishments for our City of Yonkers with his leadership in Albany in the New York State Legislature, always being the voice for Yonkers and putting Yonkers First, due to his advocacy through his many years of being involved iin Education, City Organizations and also being a true leader in our City of Hills and also show his love for his City and making sure Yonkers gets fairness in Albany, whether with Yonkers Schools, Infrastructure in our City with help from Albany and making sure that we get greater funding from Albany, due to his many years of Advocating for our City, plus Assemblyman Sayegh always brings people together to work together and Assemblyman Sayegh is a uniter and not a divider. That is to his credit, also to his credit the pieces of Legislation that he is sponsored in his first year as a State Legislator shows how hard he is working, also he has co-sponsored close to over six hundred plus pieces of legislation in the New York State Assembly, that is really great and show Assemblyman Sayegh is a leader by Example and he also stands by the words of Actions speaking louder than words.

It is an honor to have interviewed Assemblyman Sayegh and it is an absolute honor to be able to call Assemblyman Sayegh a friend for many years. He is doing a great job representing Yonkers in Albany and he is providing Real Leadership, Accomplishments and Results for our City of Yonkers in the State Assembly in Albany.

Nader J. Sayegh Biography:

Nader J. Sayegh, a resident of Yonkers for over 60 years, grew up with seven siblings on the southwest side of the city, which was ethnically and racially diverse. After working his way through college, he dedicated himself to being a spokesperson for community needs in education and in equitable opportunities for all.

This path has guided him to seek and reach success as a teacher, principal, college professor, Captain in the NYS Guard/Militia, and president of the Yonkers Public Schools Board of Education. In addition, Dr. Sayegh has also served as a Trustee for the NYS Board of Elections, where he was on several committees, including the Instructional Affairs Committee and the Big Five Cities Board. Nader understands urban education because he has lived and has held several positions within that capacity. He is a true leader who knows how to advocate for educational reform, as well as how to address the needs of English Language Learners (ELLs) and students with special needs.

Nader’s leadership in community service and as an attorney for 28 years, specializing in personal injury, immigration, criminal and real estate law, has resulted in his participation in numerous civic, hospital and nonprofit scholarship committees, the Spanish Foundation, and the NAACP, to name a few areas where he has, and continues to be, a consistent supporter and advocate for education, labor and human resources.

Nader represents the 90th Assembly District, which almost entirely encompasses the city of Yonkers. In this role, he continues to lobby for the redistributing of funds to his city so the school system can build new schools. One of his goals in the NYS Assembly is to fight for changes in the New York State Education Funding Formula which shortchanges Yonkers students and deprives schools of a fair share of their necessary funding. In the Assembly, he also works toward decreasing taxes for the middle class, while enhancing the job market and the economy in NYS.

Dr. Sayegh earned an Associate Degree from Westchester Community College, a Bachelor’s Degree in History and Political Science from Lehman College, a Master’s Degree in International Affairs from Fairleigh Dickinson University, a Professional Diploma in Administration and Supervision from Fordham University and a Juris Doctor of Law from Pace University School of Law.

Furthermore, Nader is an expert lecturer on various educational topics with a focus on school district/municipal agreements (consolidation of services), immigration, safety and security, code of conduct, special education, adult/alternate education and school/law policies.

On a personal note, Nader Sayegh has been married to his wife, Sana, for 34 years. They have five daughters who are successful in the fields of medicine, education and dentistry.

Dear Friends,                           

As the new legislative session for the Yonkers City Council is set to begin in the beginning of September, I would like to encourage all residents in my district (District 3) and beyond to learn about the happenings of last legislative session, 2018/2019. Here in the Yonkers City Council, we keep a record of all passed and failed legislation brought in front of the City Council. Knowing what the upcoming legislative session is important if you or your neighbor(s) would like to follow a resolution/bill/ordinance as it makes its way through Council rulings. Moreover, a new legislative session means introducing new and forgotten proposals for improving the City of Yonkers. 

On a different note: Please be on the lookout for more up and coming events that will take place throughout the fall months. Also, 'back to school' specials around Yonkers are still going on since the beginning of August so be on the lookout for those hot deals.
