The Yonkers Department of Public Works will conduct a city-wide Fall Clean-Up on Saturday, October 22, from 6:00AM – 12:00PM. The clean-up is aimed at cleaning neglected vacant properties, city streets and community gardens throughout Yonkers. In addition, sanitation trucks will collect additional bulk items from six-family dwellings or less. To schedule a bulk pick-up, residents are encouraged to call the Mayor’s Help Line at 914-377-HELP (4357).

On Tuesday, September 27, 2022, we raised the Italian flag at City Hall to kick off a week of festivities which will culminate in our annual Yonkers Columbus Day parade this Sunday, October 2nd, 2022 at 2pm. This week's festivities included a line painting on Midland Avenue, an Italian Coffee reception hosted by Mayor Mike Spano, the Columbus Day Annual Gala, and a Columbus Day Committee Mass.

To make the process as informative as possible, I've partnered with Councilwoman Shanae Williams and the Yonkers NAACP to hold a series of community meetings throughout the City of Yonkers. The first such meeting will be taking place next Wednesday, October 5th at 7pm at the Dayspring Community Center, located at 320 Walnut Street.

Yonkers Insider: We need Virginia Perez back in Elected Office. Will you return Virginia, we need you in Higher Elected Office this time? Yonkers Needs you, now more than Ever!!
Virginia Perez served Yonkers as a Westchester County Legislator in the 17th District from January of 2012 till January of 2020. It is my humble opinion that We need Virginia Perez back in Elected Office, Only this time in Higher Elected Office. You never hear Virginia's Name when it comes to the Office for Yonkers Mayor, which is up in 2023.
As a County Legislator during her service, Virginia was a fighter for her Constituents, who she called her Extended Family. She held Events for the Community and also Had Town Hall Meetings and was a very active Elected Official who went to every meeting, Virginia took her job as an Elected Official very seriously. She is the Example, that other Elected Officials should have followed. Virginia was one hell of an Elected Official and Yonkers Needs her in Higher Elected Office this time!!!
When Virginia was in Elected Office, her only bosses where her Extended Family - Her Constituents and not the Political Establishment.
The Political Establishment didn't like Virginia Perez, because she wouldn't Bow to all the Political Establishments Wishes and Desires. That is what made Virginia head and shoulders above any other Elected Official and wasn't even close in our View.
A call to Virginia Perez: We need you back in Elected Office and This Time Higher Elected Office: To once again, be a fighter for the People and against the Political Establishment.

To the Editor,
When you go to the polls to vote this fall, please remember to turn your ballot over and vote YES for Proposition 1, the $4.2 billion New York Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Bond Act.
Proceeds from this bond issue will offer every community in New York State the opportunity to:
- Mitigate climate change through the purchase of electric school buses, creation of green buildings, addressing air and water pollution, especially in disadvantaged communities, etc.
- Reduce flooding risks through property buyouts, shoreline protection, waterfront revitalization, etc.
- Provide open space and land conservation through land acquisition, farmland protection, expansion of fish hatcheries, etc.
- Improve water quality through municipal water infrastructure improvements, upgrading storm water systems, etc.
Fully 35-40% of the funds will be devoted to the disadvantaged communities that have borne the brunt of air and water pollution in the past, and the projects financed by the bonds are projected to create more than 84,000 good paying green jobs. And the financing of the bonds will result in no noticeable increase in your state taxes.
It’s a win-win-win for everyone in New York.
So Flip-Your-Ballot and vote YES for Proposition 1. We’ll all be better off for that.

An Unfair Advantage!

Then it happened, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to him, “Is that you, O troubler of Israel?”And he answered, “I have not troubled Israel, but you and your father’s house have, in that you have forsaken the commandments of the Lord and have followed the Baals. Now therefore, send and gather all Israel to me on Mount Carmel, the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal, and the four hundred prophets of Asherah, who eat at Jezebel’s table.”
It can be argued that the prophetic voice of the preacher has been silenced and replaced with a voice of apathy. A prophetic voice is one that forewarns and foretells, a voice that communicates vision and foresight. The prophetic voice is often confrontational and provocative.
A prophetic voice goes against the status quo and challenges us to go beyond the mediocre and the mundane to reach the highest heights and gain the greatest victories. Marvin A. McMickle wrote in Where Have All the Prophets Gone? Reclaiming Prophetic Preaching in America, where have the voices gone that overlook and ignore so many pressing issues in our society that now go unaddressed and unexamined by many who preach the gospel of Jesus Christ?
The voices we count on to provoke and challenge us to be our best selves have been silenced, if not eradicated.
A meeting was slated to take place between King Ahab and the prophet Elijah. It would be both dramatic and spectacular. Ahab was as bad a king as ever the world experienced, and Elijah as good a prophet as the world could imagine. This dramatic meeting was not arranged by either Elijah or Ahab but ordained by God. It would be a showdown between all that was good and the power of evil. In this exchange, Elijah had an unfair advantage.
Obadiah, a servant of Ahab but a worshiper of God, was sent by Ahab and told to "Go into the land to all the springs of water and to all the brooks; perhaps we may find grass to keep the horses and mules alive, so that we will not have to kill any livestock” (v. 5). While in route, Obadiah met Elijah, recognized him as the prophet of God, and honored him. Elijah immediately directed him to go and tell his master where he could be found.
Obadiah feared doing that because he thought the Lord would direct Elijah to go somewhere else before Ahab arrived, and he would be killed. Prophetic people of God have decided that dying is gain (Philippians 1:21). That’s another reason they have an unfair advantage. Obadiah was a believer, but he did not possess a prophetic voice. When Elijah met Ahab, he told him it wasn’t him that troubled Israel, but it was he and his father’s house who were the troublers. It was he who had forsaken the commandments of God and followed false gods. Then he challenges the king to assemble all 450 prophets of Baal and the 400 prophets of Asherah to gather at Mt. Carmel. He boldly proclaims that he alone can stand before the prophets of Baal and defeat them all.
A prophetic voice of the prophet knows that they have an unfair advantage over the enemy no matter the number that comes against them! They know that they personify the recovery of the prophetic ministry that has been lost. And, they are willing, as Marvin A. McMickle says, to find the courage and the boldness to stand up to and speak out against the people and policies responsible for those issues in our society that go unaddressed and unexamined."
