Pre-Kwanzaa Children’s Book Drive Begins Monday, November 18;
Gospel Community Concert to be Held Friday, December 6 at 6P.M.
Yonkers, NY – November 18, 2024 – Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano, in collaboration with his African American Advisory Board and the Yonkers Public Library, today announces the launch of the Pre-Kwanzaa Children’s Book Drive beginning today Monday, November 18th and the Gospel Community Concert on Friday, December 6th at 6PM at the Yonkers Riverfront Library located at One Larkin Center, Yonkers. These initiatives aim to celebrate cultural heritage, promote literacy, and bring the community together in the spirit of Kwanzaa.
“This partnership is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our community’s diversity and commitment to education, stated Mayor Mike Spano. “By coming together for the Pre-Kwanzaa Children’s Book Drive and Gospel Community Concert, we can make a meaningful impact on the lives of our children and families.”
The Pre-Kwanzaa Children’s Book Drive will collect new children’s books to be distributed to children in Yonkers.
Ø The drive runs from Monday, November 18th to Wednesday, December 18th, with drop-off locations at all three Yonkers Public Library branches.
· Yonkers Riverfront Library - One Larkin Center
· Grinton I. Will Library - 1500 Central Park Avenue
· Crestwood Library - 16 Thompson Street
Ø All collected books will be free and available the week of Kwanzaa Thursday, December 26 through Tuesday, December 31st at the Yonkers Riverfront Library located at One Larkin Center, Yonkers during the following library hours:
· Thursday, December 26 (10am-8pm)
· Friday, December 27 (10am-5pm)
· Saturday, December 28 (10am-5pm)
· Sunday, December 29 (12pm-5pm)
· Monday, December 30 (9am-8pm)
· Tuesday, December 31 (9am-5pm)
The Gospel Community Concert will feature performances by local and surrounding city gospel choirs and artists, celebrating the rich musical traditions of the African American community.
Ø The concert will be held on Friday, December 6th, at 6PM at the Yonkers Riverfront Library Auditorium.
Ø This event is free and open to the public, and attendees are encouraged to bring a book donation.
Yonkers Public Library Director, Jesse Montero added, “Yonkers Public Library is proud to partner with Mayor Mike Spano and the African American Advisory Board to celebrate the spirit of Kwanzaa - and its principles of unity, creativity and purpose that bind us as a community.”
