FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: CITY OF YONKERS UNVEILS FIRST PARK NAMED IN HONOR OF HISPANIC HERITAGE. 

 

Former Daylighting III Re-named ‘El Parque de la Cultura’.

Yonkers, NY – October 21, 2024 – Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and the Yonkers Department of Parks, Recreation & Conservation along with the approval of the Yonkers Parks Board have successfully renamed Daylighting III, El Parque de la Cultura or Culture Park.

 

Located on the corner of Nepperhan Avenue and New Main Street, it is the first neighborhood park in the City of Yonkers with a bilingual sign. It is also the first park dedicated to the influence of Hispanic culture in Yonkers.

 

“We embrace all communities here in Yonkers,” said Mayor Mike Spano. “This park symbolizes the more than 20 Latin American countries represented in Yonkers. The influence of Latino culture is a source of pride and continues to be an important partnership for the growth of our City.”

 

“The Latino culture has accelerated here in Yonkers over the past 20 years,” said Yonkers Parks Commissioner Steve Sansone. “This park is dedicated to how the Latino culture has infused itself in the City of Yonkers and the community has benefitted greatly as a result.”

 

Daylighting III opened in 2018 and is one of three Yonkers Parks designed to create open, green space for the City’s downtown while protecting the ecology of the Saw Mill River.
