A little more about recycling in Westchester County: The Westchester County Department of Environmental Facilities (DEF) serves as New York State’s designated Planning Unit for Westchester’s 43 municipalities and manages Refuse Disposal District No. 1, to which 36 of the County’s municipalities belong. DEF oversees several solid waste and recycling facilities, which handle about 90% of the County’s residential waste stream. DEF also manages the County’s many recycling and waste reduction programs and services. You can find information about how to dispose of recycling, hazardous waste, and documents for shredding, and how to access other DEF services at environment.westchestergov.com
