Dear Friends and Neighbors,
"Christmas in July" embodies the spirit of giving and community, reflecting the Westchester County Board of Legislators' commitment to enhancing local lives throughout the year as we continue to meet through the summer.
Just as the holiday season brings warmth and generosity, the Board's ongoing efforts and accomplishments—such as improving public services, supporting local initiatives, and fostering community engagement—aim to uplift and enrich the lives of Westchester residents.
This summer celebration is a reminder of the Board's dedication to making a positive impact, mirroring the festive joy and communal spirit of the holiday season.
No matter our religious/spiritual preference, they are all grounded in love and kindness, respect, humility and generosity, so I ask during this season that you identify a way to display an act of kindness to a neighbor, your community or a positive cause, here are some ideas listed below that you may want to consider:
- Check on Vulnerable Neighbors: During the next heatwave(s), reach out to neighbors who live alone, are disabled, or are older adults to ensure they are staying safe and hydrated. A simple phone call or visit can provide crucial support and help them manage the heat more comfortably.
- Organize a Community Service Project: Embrace the spirit of giving by organizing a summer volunteer project, addressing issues that impact your community (i.e., a food/clothes drive or a community cleanup [go through the proper City Channels]). This effort fosters a sense of togetherness and helps address local needs, mirroring the holiday season's emphasis on generosity.
- Host a Neighborhood Gathering: Plan a summer block party or BBQ to bring neighbors together (with proper permits/approvals). This event can promote social connections and create a festive atmosphere, enhancing community bonds and celebrating the season with the warmth and joy reminiscent of the holiday spirit.
Share your acts of kindness/events with pictures (if applicable) and I will feature them in upcoming newsletters stressing how District 16 is taking care of each other because it does take a village and together we will continue to make change to help provide a better quality of life for all.
I appreciate your kind words and I hope you enjoy this edition.
Sincerely,
Honorable Shanae V. Williams
Legislator, 16th District
