Happy 4th of July!
America gained its independence on July 4th, 1776.
Here in Yonkers, we celebrate with our annual fireworks display in the Yonkers downtown area, over the Hudson River. Music at the waterfront will kick off at 7pm, and the fireworks display will start at approximately 9:00pm.
Please take a look below for information from the Yonkers Police Department regarding road closures, so you can plan accordingly.
Beginning at 5:00 pm on 7/4/24, the following roads will be closed to vehicular traffic:
• Pierpointe Street, Water Grant Street, Peene Lane in their entirety
• Main Street from Buena Vista Avenue to the Hudson River
• Alexander Street from Main Street to Ashburton Avenue
• Dock Street and Wells Avenue west of River Street
• Nepperhan Street from Buena Vista Avenue to Warburton Avenue
Beginning at 6:00 pm on 7/4/24, the following roads will be closed to vehicular traffic:
• Buena Vista Avenue from Main Street to Dock Street
• Dock Street in its entirety
Be advised that there will be NO PARKING ON ALL OF THE ABOVE-LISTED ROADS BEGINNING AT 1:00 PM on 7/4/24.
The above-listed roads will be closed to vehicular traffic until approximately 11:00 pm on 7/4/24. Residents who live in the affected area and are planning to travel during these times are advised to park their vehicles elsewhere as they will not be able to move their vehicles once the closures are in effect. Those not coming to enjoy the fireworks are advised to avoid the area due to the expected congestion on surrounding roads.
Please be advised that the following items are prohibited in the waterfront area for the duration of the event:
-Bags and Coolers
-The flying of personal drones or any type of unmanned aircraft or UAV
Please note that City Hall is closed today in observance of the Independence Day holiday.
