CITY OF YONKERS PARKS DEPARTMENT TO CELEBRATE 110th ANNIVERSARY.
Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and the Yonkers Department of Parks, Recreation & Conservation will celebrate the department’s 110th Anniversary with a ceremony Monday, July 22 at 12:15PM at Yonkers City Hall, Unity Fountain. The Yonkers Recreation Commission was established in 1914 by Mayor James T. Lennon.
Over the last 110 years, the Yonkers Parks department established 424 acres in the over 80 parks and playgrounds, tens of thousands of trees, 57 ballfields, 24 tennis courts, 9 outdoor fitness areas as well as 46 outdoor basketball courts, and the Edward J. Murray Memorial Skating Rink, the Yonkers Animal Shelter, Untermyer Park, JFK Marina, the Yonkers Pier and the new soccer field on North Broadway.
July marks National Park & Recreation Month.
