As we concluded the final week of Session in the State Assembly, I advocated for numerous legislation which passed with solid unwavering support. My 9/11 Notice Act which was unanimously supported is now official law in New York.
Nearly 22 years following the tragic events of the 9/11 tragedy, a critical need for awareness regarding the benefits and eligibility for the federal World Trade Center Health Program and the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund prompted decisive action. The 9/11 Notice Act mandates that previously overlooked victims, including downtown office workers, doormen, construction workers, students, teachers, retail workers, and delivery people, be informed of their eligibility status by their past and present employers. No individual should endure 9/11-related illnesses burdened by medical expenses when free federal resources stand available to assist.
Furthermore, my Data Breach Resolution A8872A, passing with an overwhelming vote of 142-2, requires businesses to promptly notify individuals of a data breach within 30 days, aiming to safeguard consumers and their accounts from fraud.
Additionally, I proudly co-sponsored Resolution A6219B, which mandates separate collection categories for White, Middle Eastern, and North African (MENA) groups in NYS. This initiative is paramount for fostering accurate data representation and informed policy development, ensuring inclusivity, and addressing the diverse needs of these communities effectively.
Lastly, I introduced both Resolution A189-B, aimed at analyzing the effectiveness of blood alcohol content dealing primarily with D.W.I (Driving While Intoxicated), and Resolution A3122-A, establishing an Alzheimer's Disease Education and Outreach Program. With the increase in Dementia and Alzheimers Disease impacting our loved ones this legislation will help us address this critical illness.
I again call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza! I urge all involved parties to engage in negotiations for a lasting peace agreement, which includes the release of all hostages and prisoners. Additionally, it is imperative that the international community promptly addresses the hunger and starvation affecting the population in Gaza. From the start of this conflict, over 37,000 have died. |
