According to the Journal News, “Westchester County Legislator Christopher Johnson, D-Yonkers, the Board Majority Leader, bought a $770,000 house outside of his legislative district in June 2022, just five months into his third term.”
The County Charter states: “Each county legislator shall be an elector of the county and a resident of the district from which he is elected. A county legislator who ceases to be a resident of such district from which he is elected shall forfeit his office and the same shall be deemed vacant.”
Chris Johnson’s brother-in-law and his girlfriend resides in Johnsons’ North Broadway 1-bedroom condominium. The girlfriend states on record that “Chris does not live there” anymore. Two of Chris’ new neighbors confirm he resides on RoseHill Terrace which is outside the 16th District until Jan. 1, 2024.
Chris Johnson would not say on the record where his primary residence is located – North Broadway condo or his house on RoseHill Terrace.
The County Board of Legislators must abide by the County Charter and remove Johnson from the Board for abandoning the district that he was elected to represent.
The writing is on the wall, it is time to get Chris packing!
