The State Budget funds education, public safety, affordable housing initiatives, health and services for New Yorkers who need special help. It also determines what we as a state feel are priorities to move us forward and support an economy that works for everyone.
Most important is State Funding for Education and as budget negotiations continue; Assemblyman Sayegh is fighting for equitable funding for Yonkers Public Schools. This is a must to avoid cuts in services and layoffs which would impact Music, Sports, Arts, Library and Support Services.
Additionally, we must make sure the budget continues to fund anti-violence and anti-crime programs that combined with the professional De-escalation Training and Policing Skills provided by the Yonkers Police Department, are helping to make Yonkers one of the safest large cities in the country.
Finally, to all of my Irish-American friends in the City of Yonkers and beyond, I wish you a very festive St.Patrick's Day. I look forward to celebrating alongside you at tomorrow's parade on the infamous Emerald Mile on our very own McLean Avenue. |
