The Yonkers Downtown Waterfront BID unveiled a new piece of equipment to help clean up the City's streets and sidewalks. The BID Rangers will be out multiple times a week to help clean up our sidewalks.
In my opinion, we have a litter issue that needs to be addressed. It is disgusting how people recklessly litter. It is disrespectful to those of us who live here and want to maintain a high quality of life.
Public Works has crews out across the city trying to keep the city clean. Unfortunately, it is difficult to keep up with the amount of litter people are throwing on the ground.
In addition to Public Works cleaning, Yonkers also needs its property owners and business owners to chip in. Keeping your sidewalk and 18" into the street clean is the responsibility of property owners and/or business owners. This applies all year-round, not just during snowstorms.
I am proposing an increase in manpower for the crews that work to keep our streets clean. I am also proposing that Yonkers add back the 400+ trash cans that were removed several years back. Some have returned, but we do need more. We must also launch a Public Campaign to keep Yonkers clean and clear of litter. And, lets get our school children involved.
If you have any ideas, please feel free to share them. In the meantime, I will work with Mayor Spano's Office on this very important issue.
