Yonkers My Brother’s Keeper - Sixth Anniversary Celebration

During the six-year history as an early adopter of President Obama’s national challenge to participate in the My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) initiative, Yonkers success stories are measured by how many doors to opportunity have been opened for thousands of young men of color.
In 2016, Mayor Mike Spano accepted the challenge and Superintendent of Schools
Dr. Edwin M. Quezada implemented and expanded exponentially MBK in Yonkers 8 high schools and more than 20 prekindergarten through grade 8 schools. Through a supportive community that provides funding for programs and college scholarships as well as personal time to mentor young people MBK thrives. So many of the MBK brothers’ stories told of circumstances that delayed, distracted or diverted their paths to success. Each story, which now includes young women through Yonkers My Sister's Keeper (MSK), was and is a young person full of promise needing someone to recognize and nurture their potential. Yonkers MBK and MSK have and will continue to address that need.
