Yonkers Insider: Yonkers Police Department: NEWS RELEASE - Yonkers Police Department hires and recognizes forty-five members.

 

Yonkers, NY – Mayor Mike Spano and Police Commissioner Christopher Sapienza presided over yesterday’s hiring and recognition ceremony which was held in the City of Yonkers Riverfront Library. The Mayor and Commissioner were proud to swear-in nineteen new Probationary Police Officers, which included four “Be the Change” graduates, four prior service law enforcement officers, and members of the United States Armed Forces. The Mayor and Commissioner also recognized the prior promotions and appointments of twenty-six members to positions of higher authority and assignments within Department.

The new recruits have begun Basic Recruit School at the Westchester County Department of Public Safety Police Academy, a 20-week program including courses in police science, law, physical fitness training, and more. Upon graduation the new officers will attend secondary training, including field training with a certified field training police officer, at the Yonkers Police Department before being assigned to their patrol commands.

The addition of these new officers reinforces the City of Yonkers’ commitment to public safety. The ceremony was held in the presence of family and friends. Congratulations to all and best wishes on your new assignments!
