This week, the New York State Assembly passed the Equality Amendment officially bringing the amendment to New York voters for ratification on the ballot in November of 2024. I was proud to cast my vote in the affirmative for this important constitutional amendment.
The legislation, (A.1283) would amend the New York State Constitution to prohibit discrimination by the government based on a person’s ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, and sex — including their sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy, and pregnancy outcomes. It would also protect against any government actions that would curtail a person’s reproductive autonomy or access to reproductive healthcare. Once again, New York State is a beacon in leading the nation in protecting the freedom of all New Yorkers amid overreach by the Federal judiciary. |
