New York Governor Kathy Hochul delivered her State of the State Address before a joint session of the State Legislature earlier this week.
The Governor’s message to all New Yorkers was that we’re in this together and she is right. We are still dealing with a pandemic, inflation and crime. As a Member of the State Legislature, it is my duty to look at all issues and address them in a collaborative fashion with alongside my colleagues in government for the benefit of our community at large.
As a former Teacher, School Principal and Yonkers Board of Education President, I support the Governor’s call for expanding mental health and adequate support services for all school students in New York State. There is a mental health crisis in our communities that has been further compounded by the isolation, disengagement, and instability brought on by the pandemic as well as other traumatic societal events, making the need for mental health services even more critical. Later this month the Governor will present a State Budget Proposal and that will detail her plans to address the economy, crime, inflation and affordable housing. I look forward to working with Governor Hochul and her team to comprehensively address these matters. Her Address to the Joint Session of the Legislature also made history, as she did so this year after being the first woman elected to serve as Governor of our State. |
