Reproductive Health: On Tuesday, a bill I introduced alongside Assemblymember Karines Reyes (D- A.D.87), passed the Senate Committee on Health and has advanced to the Senate Committee on Rules. This bill will provide clear protections for New York doctors and medical providers serving patients seeking abortion and reproductive health services through telehealth services, even if the patients are in other states. The bill, S.1066A, builds upon the package of laws the Legislature passed after the overturning of Roe v. Wade. My new bill shields New York doctors and others who provide services authorized under New York law to non-New York women through telehealth. In doing so, this legislation provides the strongest protections possible by ensuring that New York will not participate in out-of-state interference, paving the way for greater access to reproductive health for patients, regardless of the state in which they live. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts passed a bill with similar provisions last year, which was signed into law by then-Governor Charlie Baker. I am hopeful my bill will move through the Senate and Assembly this legislative session.
