Legislator James Nolan Announces Re-election Campaign in Newly Drawn District 15.
Today, James Nolan launched his campaign for a second term for Westchester County Legislator in the newly drawn District 15. Legislator Nolan was elected in 2021 by defeating an incumbent by the second largest margin in Westchester County Legislature history. He has served as a tireless advocate for both District 15 and Westchester County as a whole. The newly drawn District 15 includes the Village of Bronxville, parts of the Town of Eastchester, and parts of the cities of Mount Vernon and Yonkers.
"I am excited to announce my reelection campaign. Westchester is a unique and wonderful place to live. It's been the pleasure of a lifetime to represent Bronxville and Yonkers. I'm excited to include residents of Eastchester and Mount Vernon as my constituents next year!" said Legislator Nolan.
"I took office last year during a very difficult time for our Country. We were still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The week I became a county legislator, there were over 3,000 new COVID cases a day. We have continued to inch further and further into a recession throughout my term. This economic slump has been perpetuated by a 40 year high in inflation. Despite all these obstacles, I have never stopped trying to do my best for residents. The biggest lesson I've learned since taking office is that every action has a reaction and this especially proves true when Governments craft legislation. I'm excited to campaign on my record this year." Continued Legislator Nolan.
While in office, Legislator Nolan has been passionate about public safety, quality of life issues, workers' rights, and budgetary issues. He has been an outspoken advocate on all these topics.
Since taking office in 2022, Legislator Nolan has made protecting residents' quality of life one of his top priorities. He helped secure federal funding to replace the Bronxville footbridge that was washed away in 2021. The footbridge project is set to be completed during the Fall of 2023. Legislator Nolan has helped more than a dozen community groups receive funds from the county government. These community groups are located all over Westchester County. For many of these groups, this was their first time receiving county funds.
Legislator Nolan knows that keeping residents safe is one of the most important jobs that local governments have. This October, he asked County Executive George Latimer to form a Westchester County Police SCUBA Team because of the frequent requests for divers throughout our county. Since March 2021, there have been 24 requests for divers in the county. Legislator Nolan helped secure funding for a brand new ESU truck in this year's budget. Legislator Nolan is working with his colleagues to pass several pieces of legislation that will help keep residents safe as crime rates continue to climb.
Legislator Nolan has made "Backing the Blue" a top priority of his. This summer, he secured a $4,000 grant for Yonkers National Night Out and did so for the Village of Bronxville during the 2022 budget process. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while crafting a stronger sense of community.
While in office, Legislator Nolan has been an ally of labor unions. Labor Union leadership have had a direct line of contact with Legislator Nolan since his candidacy. He has taken the time to meet union membership and to learn what issues are important to them.
In March 2022, when our Country faced the highest gas prices in history, Legislator Nolan was the first Westchester County Legislator to publicly come out in favor of temporarily repealing the county sales tax on gas purchases. His colleagues would later take his lead and repeal the county sales tax for gas purchases during the summer of 2022. This legislation helped drivers save hundreds of dollars at the gas pump during the Summer. He also supported suspending the sales tax on home heating costs this Winter.
Legislator James Nolan will be having an official kick off event on February 6th at Mulino's at Lake Isle Country Club in Eastchester, NY. His kick off event will be hosted by former Gubernatorial Candidate Lee Zeldin.
