Background: Thousands of construction workers involved in the massive cleanup of Ground Zero after 9/11, as well as other people who worked in the area where the Twin Towers fell, are eligible for medical coverage under the Zadroga 9/11 Health & Compensation Act.
Most emergency first-responders have registered; however, only about 10 percent of eligible civilian non-emergency personnel are estimated to have signed up for coverage and are not even aware of their eligibility. Cancer and other illnesses related to toxins at the site continue to impact people 21 years after the attack.
