Gov Hochul Announces $16.6 Million for 5 Long Duration Battery Storage Solutions
Earlier this month Governor Hochul announced $16.6 Million in awards for five long duration energy storage projects. These funds have been made available through NYSERDA’s Renewable Optimization and Energy Storage Innovation Program, with the goal of advancing renewable energy implementation and reducing our reliance on fossil fuels.
Climate Week NYC is a week of events run by The Climate Group that has taken place every year in New York City since 2009. The summit takes place alongside the UN General Assembly and brings together international leaders from business, government and civil society to showcase global climate action. This year Climate Week runs from September 19th-25th.
Illegal dumping in pine barrens a chronic problem, officials say
Illegally dumped mounds of household debris, including furniture, paperwork and lamps, were discovered in the pine barrens in Yaphank in August, the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office announced on Wednesday, the latest in an ongoing trash problem within Long Island's most significant wilderness preserve. The Long Island Central Pine Barrens are a common spot for illegal dumping of household waste, said sheriff’s office Capt. Michael Smith, who also serves as chairman of the Pine Barrens Law Enforcement Council.
La Niña conditions could mean warmer fall season, experts say
Meteorologists are predicting this fall will be warmer than usual, with La Niña conditions that have been with us all year lasting at least through the upcoming season.
An outlook released by the National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center on Thursday showed a 91% chance of the La Niña weather pattern persisting through November.
Environmentalists rally to promote $4 billion project to clean up New York (Video)
Environmentalists rallied at the Northport Yacht Club to promote the Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Bond Act. They say the $4 billion project would restore Long Island’s shorelines and reduce flooding. They also say it will also provide crucial support for New York's economy, supporting over 100,000 green jobs. The act will be on a statewide ballot in November. If passed, it will be the first environmental bond in 26 years.
