FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MAYOR SPANO ENCOURAGES YONKERS RESIDENTS TO OPT INTO WESTCHESTER POWER’S 100% RENEWABLE ENERGY SUPPLY PROGRAM.
Sustainable Westchester’s Guaranteed Fixed-Rates for a Electricity Supply Provide Economic Value Compared to Private Electric Providers.
YONKERS, NY – September 8, 2022 – In an effort to offer a cost-effective sustainable energy supply alternative, Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano today reminds residents to opt into the Westchester Power Community Choice Aggregation program, known as Westchester Power. Westchester Power, which launched in Yonkers on March 1, 2022, currently provides roughly 36,000 Yonkers households with locally sourced 100% Renewable energy using New York State hydropower. This renewable energy program is currently more affordable than the utility rate and residents can opt in-and-out of the program at any time with no penalty or fees.
“With market prices drastically and continuously increasing, our Yonkers residents have voiced their difficulty with keeping up with their energy bills,” said Mayor Spano. “We are now seeing how the Westchester Power program in Yonkers is providing a much healthier and greener alternative for those residents who chose to opt in. Westchester Power remains the more affordable option for renewable energy compared to private energy service companies.”
Eligible Yonkers residents who are not currently in the program may opt in and enjoy fixed-rates of 7.287 cents kW/h for standard supply; or 8.709 cents kW/h for 100% renewable supply through December 2023 (Rates do not include 3% GRT).
This Public Service Commission regulated program launched in 2016 and remains the state model for Community Energy programs. Since its inception, Westchester Power has served 115,000 residents in 28 Westchester municipalities who have come together to address climate change through their electricity choice. Sustainable Westchester is a nonprofit consortium of Westchester County local governments that facilitates effective collaboration on sustainability initiatives.
Eligible Yonkers residents can opt in-and-out of the program at ANY TIME without any penalty.
To opt-in to the program, take the following steps:
1. Make your enrollment choice at sustainablewestchester.org/
2. Email westchesterpower@
3. Call Sustainable Westchester at 914-242-4725 Ext. 111
For residents who do opt-in, it may take up to two billing cycles for FINAL changes to appear on the monthly bill. This is solely dependent on a resident’s billing cycle, when the opt-out is initiated and when the resident’s next meter read is scheduled.
