This past week, I was proud to participate in various events with the Ukrainian-American Community here in Yonkers and across New York as the country celebrated the 31st Anniversary of its Independence.
In the face of great adversity, Ukrainians continue to be resolute in the promotion of their culture and values. As the Russian invasion of Ukraine enters its sixth month, I’m proud to have supported various actions to hold the Russian government accountable and help connect refugees with resources. Earlier this year, I introduced the Stop Russian Aggression Act (A.9501) with Senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick which ordered the divestment of millions of dollars in companies owned by Russian oligarchs. In addition, my office continues to help newly arrived refugees from war torn Ukraine learn about resources available to them. I’m proud of our community’s diversity and will continue to take the action necessary to protect freedom and sovereignty wherever and whenever it’s challenged.
