FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MAYOR SPANO ANNOUNCES YONKERS OFFICE FOR THE AGING TO DISTRIBUTE COUPONS TO SENIORS FOR LOCAL FARMERS MARKETS.
YONKERS, NY – August 2, 2022 – Mayor Mike Spano today announced the Yonkers Office for the Aging will distribute farmers market coupons to qualified Yonkers seniors. The coupons will be available at the Office for the Aging Thursday, August 11th & Friday, August 12th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. located at the Chema Community Center, 435 Riverdale Ave.
The coupons are available to qualified applicants 60 years or older that have a monthly income of $2,096 per month or less for a one-person household; $2,823 per month or less for a two-person household and $3,551 per month or less for a three-person household.
“We encourage our seniors to make use of this money-saving service that will entice our residents to get out and shop, and contribute to our local farms while enjoying the benefits of fresh, homegrown produce and products,” said Mayor Mike Spano.
Yonkers seniors must bring a photo ID for proof of address and age.
Coupons may be used in many Farmer’s Markets in Westchester County including the Yonkers market at 1 Woodworth Avenue. This Yonkers market is open on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Due to COVID, this year’s distribution will be mainly outdoors. Masks are mandatory while you wait in line and interact with staff.
The Senior Farmers Market Program is funded through the Food and Nutrition Service division of the United States Department of Agriculture and Markets in cooperation with the NY State Office for the Aging, NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets and the Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services.
