The Siena Poll reported this week that three quarters of all New Yorkers say the New Law I voted for requiring a permit to obtain a Semi-Automatic Weapon, will be good for the State.
The State Assembly moved quickly in the wake of the recent Buffalo Supermarket Shooting and school shooting in Uvalde Texas to tighten New York's gun laws because no one should be able to purchase a semi-automatic weapon the day they turn 18. I will continue to advocate for protecting New Yorkers from gun violence and I will continue to vote to fund programs like SNUGS that put anti-crime efforts right out on our streets.
I also voted in the Assembly to cut taxes. We voted to accelerate the phased in reduction of State Income Taxes that will save New Yorkers $162 million this year and I voted to send additional property tax rebate checks.
I passed Statewide Legislation that, when signed into law, will save New Yorkers millions of dollars in sales taxes on infant and adult diapers. A number of my colleagues said they supported the measure but did not believe it would be passed this year. However, I knew this tax cut would help families struggling financially and I kept working for passage right to the last day of the Legislative Session. The vote in the Senate 63-0 in favor, in the Assembly, 144-0. |
