National Police Week is celebrated to honor the men and women who risk their lives every day in the line of duty. It is also a time for police officers to honor their fallen colleagues, make sure those surviving them are supported, as well as to remember their commitment to keeping us safe.
All four Precincts will be hosting open houses during the week. Stop by any four of the precincts, say hi and get to know your local Officers.
On Monday, May 16, Mayor Spano and Police Commissioner Chris Sapienza will kick-off National Police Week at the Unity Fountain in front of City Hall.
On Tuesday, May 17, on Nepperhan Avenue a street remaining will take place in honor of Police Officer Harold Woods who was shot in the line of duty in 1974.
On Wednesday, May 18, there will be a Promotion and Appointment ceremony in the ceremonial courtroom in City Hall; on May 25, the Yonkers Police Awards Ceremony and Memorial Service will be held at Untermyer Park and Gardens. Please look at the flyer for all the additional activities going on during the week.
I join people all around the Nation in thanking law enforcement officers for all they do to keep us safe.
Every day police officers put their lives on the line to protect our communities. We must always honor the brave officers who have given their lives in the line of duty.
