National Public Works Week is May 15 - May 21. The week recognizes the planning, building and management of local communities that keep our cities running smoothly day in and day out. This year's theme is "Ready and Resilient".
On Friday, May 20, Mayor Spano, Commissioner Thomas Meier and the students at Casimir Pulaski School celebrated National Public Works Day.
The students spent the day learning about what the City's DPW does on a daily basis. They specifically learned about the City's recycling and sustainability efforts.
Department of Public Works:
Picks up over 200 million pounds of trash per year with 4.6 million stops each year
Maintains over 1,000 miles of road per year
Manages the 30 million gallons of water per day this passes through the City system
Maintains over 25,000 manholes and cleans and repairs 11,500 catch basins per year.
Thank you Department of Public Works for all that you do! |
