Yonkers Insider: Statement from New York State Assemblyman Nader Sayegh 90th District.

Friends,
At the State Capitol, I am working to introduce and pass legislation that will help families struggling with inflation and the economic challenges brought about due to the Pandemic and War in Europe.

My legislation to Eliminate Sales Taxes on Diapers has advanced and gained the support of Assembly Majority Leader People-Stokes. In addition, I also co-sponsored a bill to provide additional tax breaks to volunteers and small business owners.

This week, I also led an effort with my colleagues in the Legislature calling on Governor Hochul and Attorney General James to enforce price-gouging laws against unscrupulous businesses and individuals who are exploiting the National Baby Formula Shortage for economic gain. Across platforms like Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace, individuals have been observed to be selling formula for a markup. Some are even selling expired and recalled formula that can endanger an infant. This behavior is uniquely abhorrent and I condemn it outright. Individuals who engage in this behavior should and will be held accountable.

I'm also pleased to report that my legislation A.3245 and A.3258A which will hold utility companies accountable to New Yorkers during restoration efforts passed in bipartisan fashion and is headed to Governor Kathy Hochul's desk to be signed into law. I thank my colleagues for their support in advancing this critical legislation.

In April, I voted to suspend the State Sales Tax on Gasoline and Diesel starting June 1 through the remainder of the year, and I applaud the work of Westchester County Executive George Latimer and The Westchester County Board of Legislators for capping the County Sales Tax on gasoline. As a result of these combined efforts, drivers will save up to 40 cents per gallon. In addition, residents can ride the Bee Line Bus System for free beginning June 1st.

I also voted for financing to make affordable child care accessible to 100,000 more working families in our State.

State Income Tax ReductionsSchool Property Tax Rebates that will go out this fall and increased Education Aid for Yonkers Public Schools are all part of my ongoing work to support working families and small businesses in Yonkers and New York State.
