We can do more to protect the lives of expectant mothers and their babies. I am supporting legislation to require hospitals to provide more information on the health risks of C-Section Deliveries, because clearly, more women in New York are undergoing this surgery than is necessary.
I spoke at a State Capitol Rally for a package of bills on this issue, including legislation I support introduced by my colleague Amy Paulin. The Cesarean Section Delivery rate in New York hospitals in 2018 was 32 percent, one of the highest in the nation and well above the Centers for Disease Control's ideal range of 10-15 percent.
Many studies associate cesarean births with higher maternal mortality rates and those mortality rates are highest in disadvantaged communities.
