This week, I was proud to pass an emergency HEAP bill which will prevent utility shutoffs for many struggling New Yorkers with past due utility bills.
In the recently passed 2022-23 state budget, I supported the creation of $250 million fund to help New Yorkers pay their utility bills. However, with rising costs, there’s still more to do to prevent our neighbors from having their power shut off-especially as we enter the warm summer months. By expanding access to this critical energy assistance program, we can address COVID-related economic challenges and help New Yorkers stay safe and in their homes.
