My thoughts are with the Yonkers Police Department Detective who was seriously injured as a result of the shooting on Elm Street. I ask that our community pray for his quick recovery and keep his loved ones in our thoughts amid this challenging time.
He was injured in the line of duty while working with a special joint Yonkers Police Department - F.B.I Taskforce to get guns off our streets.
We owe an immense debt of gratitude to the members of the law enforcement agencies who serve our communities and their families who bravely put their lives on the line for us every single day. Yonkers is one of the safest cities of its size in the United States, and as we are tragically reminded today, the valiant courage of these officers is the reason why.
There are a number of New York State supported efforts underway to combat gun violence and I have voted to increase funding for all of them. I have also met with Governor Kathy Hochul several times on the topic of gun violence and how we can make our city safer. |
