Yonkers Insider: City of Yonkers: ***NEWS RELEASE***: CITY OF YONKERS' CONSUMER PROTECTION BUREAU ISSUES TIPS REGARDING COMMERCIAL SOLICITATION.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: CITY OF YONKERS’ CONSUMER PROTECTION BUREAU ISSUES TIPS REGARDING COMMERCIAL SOLICITATION.

YONKERS, NY – April 25, 2022 – Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano today announced Yonkers Consumer Protection Bureau’s (CPB) tips to protect residents from unauthorized commercial solicitations. Licensed commercial solicitors provide a service for many Yonkers residents, but there are steps that can be taken to prevent them from soliciting a private residence.

“As we approach the warmer weather, there will be an increase of door-to-door solicitations,” said Mayor Mike Spano. “With that, we are reminding residents of the procedures in place to protect homeowners from unauthorized solicitors. I encourage residents to review the City’s approved licensed solicitors and keep in mind their expectations when coming to your homes.”

Each commercial solicitor must:

  • Be licensed and must display (or provide when asked) the license issued by the CPB.  The license will have the applicant’s picture and the company information on it (licenses are not transferable and are issued to individuals, not companies).
  • Register at the police precinct where the solicitation will take place prior to any solicitation.
  • Not solicit at any residence where a sign may be visible at the entrance stating ‘no solicitation’ or ‘no soliciting’.
  • Not contact or attempt to solicit from any resident prior to 10:00am or after 8:00pm of any day, Monday through Saturday, or at any time on Sunday, New Year’s Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day.

Kerry O’Brien Hess, Director of Consumer Protection Bureau stated, “The Consumer Protection Bureau will continue to work with the Yonkers Police Department to ensure compliance of door-to-door solicitors and continue to protect Yonkers residents’ quality of life.”

If a resident observes door-to-door sales in their neighborhood and wants to confirm if they are allowed to be there, they should inquire with their local precinct.  Residents may also check the updated list of licensed commercial solicitors at www.yonkersny.gov/consumerprotectiontips

For other complaints and/or follow-up inquiries residents should email ConsumerHelp@YonkersNY.gov.
