Last summer, Governor Kathy Hochul arrived in Yonkers aiming to find community based approaches to resolving an increase in gun violence. Of these conversations, emerged new initiatives from New York State designed to empirically reduce gun violence among vulnerable youth by coordinating outreach and connecting them with valuable workforce training and job opportunities.
Today, the first Yonkers class from this program will be entering the workforce or advancing their education. My staff were proud to celebrate them on this special day. Special thanks to the YWCA Yonkers and their staff for the incredible work they’ve done to ensure that these students could have the resources and support they needed to succeed. Our staff was glad to share in celebrating this special day by providing the graduates with New York State Assembly Certificates of Merit. Congratulations graduates.
