In the Assembly I am a supporting legislation (A6329-A,S5374-A)to raise the minimum pay for home care workers in New York. The economics are simple. If we have appropriate pay for home care workers, we will end the shortage of these caring workers, which will mean more older residents have the support they need to continue to live in their homes, or with relatives. This is a far less costly than institutional settings. Experts tell us living in their home or a home setting, provides better health outcomes for older residents. With the Capitol and Legislative Office Building reopened, it was good to see citizen activists engaging lawmakers like myself.
