In case you didn't notice, this past weekend was the inaugural weekend of legal Mobile Sport Betting in New York. Despite the fact that only 4 of the 9 authorized sportbook operators went online, New Yorkers broke records by placing approximately 64% of all bets placed nationwide. New Yorkers also placed over 5.8 million bets across the four platforms. The first weekend generated record revenue for the state, with over $5 million in tax revenue being estimated from settled bets. For reference, New York had only generated $3.7 million over the past two years from Upstate operators.
With these impressive numbers, we estimate that we will hit our targeted revenue goal of $1.1 billion much sooner than expected. That means big bucks for education and families in Yonkers and statewide. I'm proud to have been part of the Committee that made this a reality, and thank our Chairman Assemblyman J. Gary Pretlow for his leadership and support.
