Congressman Jamaal Bowman voted “No” on the $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act that passed over his opposition.
It includes $47 billion to protect communities from severe storms to prevent flooding and mudslides like Yonkers suffered recently from Hurricane Ida.
The law also means that bridges and roads will be repaired, lead water pipes replaced, electricity grids modernized and action taken on climate change.
The law will make a real difference for the people of Yonkers. So why did Bowman vote “No?”
Didn’t he know that Yonkers had floods and mudslides from Ida? It was in all the media. Mayor Spano declared a “State of Emergency” and Governor Hochul came to provide assistance. Or could it be that he didn’t care?
Bowman’s “excuse” for voting against Yonkers: he wanted another law also passed. To him it was both or nothing.
That’s right, Bowman would rather have nothing than just $1.2 trillion to make critically needed infrastructure work – the very kind that Yonkers needs.
