(Yonkers, NY) – New fitness area opens at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers.

The new fitness area includes seven pieces that can serve up to 16 people at one time:

·         Four-person lower body combo

·         Two-person upper body combo (back and arms)

·         Two-person chest press

·         Two-person lat pull down and vertical press

·         Three-person static combo (sit-ups, pull-ups, tricep dips)

·         Single rower

·         Two-person static combo (captain’s chair, pull-ups)

QR codes are included on each piece of equipment to provide instruction.

The fitness area was made possible by generous donations from Kohl's – Blythedale Children’s Hospital’s Eat Well, Be Well program and Greenfield in partnership with the Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation, Westchester County Department of Health and the Westchester County Department of Public Works and Transportation.

Westchester County Executive George Latimer said, “With the help of generous donations and the partnership of several departments coming together, we were able to bring a new element to Tibbetts Brook Park to enhance park-goers’ experiences.”

Westchester County Parks Commissioner Kathy O’Connor said, “Tibbetts Brook Park is one of the county’s most utilized parks and I’m thrilled for park-goers to have the opportunity to utilize the new equipment to incorporate into their visit.”

Westchester County Commissioner of Health, Dr. Sherlita Amler said, “Collaborating with our community partners to promote good health really gets to the core of what the Health Department does and it is the reason that we are here today. In support of our shared goal to encourage healthy behaviors, Blythedale Children’s Hospital has generously donated this state of the art, outdoor fitness equipment to the residents of Westchester County. I am certain that these new circuit-training machines will not only provide you with a comprehensive physical workout, but a mental health boost as well since you get to enjoy the fresh air and gorgeous views here at Tibbetts Brook Park.”

Program Coordinator for Blythedale Children’s Hospital and Kohl’s Eat Well, Be Well Community Wellness Program Marie Roth, MA, RDN said, “We are honored and excited to help bring this project to fruition. Outdoor fitness parks can help bring people and communities together in safe and healthy ways, which is particularly important as we continue to navigate staying active during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We hope this amenity and the opportunity to exercise in a natural, serene environment will encourage teens and adults alike to be active and spend more time in green spaces--both of which have been shown to boost physical and mental health.”
