Westchester Insider: Choice Matters: The Supreme Court opens the door.

2021 has been a tough yearand as it wraps up, we witnessed an abortion clinic attack right here in Westchester. It was the worst one in New York State in decades. The extremists were empowered by the US Supreme Court's refusal to stay Texas SB8 and then by Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization oral arguments. The Court indicated it will ignore almost 50 years of precedent and overturn Roe v. Wade.

New York cannot be caught off guard—and Choice Matters is already fighting back! We are working on a plan to educate County police departments on State and Federal Clinic Access Lawswhich they clearly don’t know, given they failed to enforce them when the White Plains clinic was attacked on November 27th. This is essential if we are going to make sure people here in the county have safe unimpeded access to reproductive healthcare.

— And we are working to pass a county Safe Clinic Access bill right here in Westchester.

Choice Matters’ strategies are key to protecting New York women. We are taking the necessary steps to fight back against these terrorists who become more dangerous with each Supreme Court indicator.

We know we cannot rely on the US Supreme Court. On Friday—even while permitting our allies to challenge SB8 under very limited conditions—the Supreme Court again refused to block Texas’ SB8. They betrayed the women in Texas and gave a green light to at least 14 states which are expected to pass SB8 copycat laws. Arkansas, Ohio and Florida already have.

Together we can protect the rights of women in New York and those who come here seeking abortion careIt may be a bumpy road but we are on it together.

We count on you!
