VETERANS DAY CEREMONY THURSDAY AT DESANTI PLAZA...WOMENS VETERANS PEACE GARDEN DEDICATION AT LIBRARY SATURDAY...LIVING HISTORY INTERVIEWS WITH LOCAL VETERANS TO AIR ON PUBLIC ACCESS TV.
The Barbara Giordano Foundation will be dedicating the Peace Garden in honor of women veterans this Saturday, November 13th at 11 AM at the Greenburgh Library. The Peace Garden recognizes women veterans for their personal sacrifices and devotion to the nation and establishes a place of peach and calm in a hectic world. It will bring community members of all ages together. The 89th National Guard Band will be present. Keynote speaker will be Colonel Mary Westmoreland.
VETERANS DAY is this Thursday 11/11 at 2 PM at DeSanti Plaza--across from the Hartsdale train station. The event is sponsored by our Veterans Committee. There will be seating for veterans and seniors.
Some restaurants and businesses offer veterans complimentary meals, discounts. I have a partial list that I am happy to share.
As has been our practice we will air 150 living history interviews with Greenburgh World War II and Korean conflict veterans non stop on Veterans day and during the weekend on our local government public access TV channels -channels 75 and 76 on optimum and 34 and 35, Verizon FIOS. Each interview is about a half hour long. Many of the veterans who were intervieweed for this living history initiative are no longer alive but their stories and bravery will be remembered for generations to come. We've been airing these interviews every Memorial Day and Veterans Day for over a decade.
