(Valhalla, NY) – Westchester County Executive George Latimer and Correction Commissioner Joseph K. Spano will formally recognize the work of the Westchester Department of Correction (WDOC) in a ceremony that will applaud professionalism, reliability, cooperation and teamwork during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Latimer said: “These men and women have done so much to provide vital functions and required services to support WDOC operations, staff and residents during this unprecedented COVID pandemic.  Throughout the pandemic, they have shown extraordinary dedication and personal commitment to serving the Department of Correction, their profession and this County government. To these brave men and women I say – thank you.”

 

Spano said: “This ceremony allows our Department to publicly acknowledge all levels of our workforce who are deserving of special recognition for the amazing work that’s being done to maintain a safe and healthy environment during this unprecedented public health crisis. Safely managing a 24/7 jail operation during the pandemic with a large workforce and hundreds of incarcerated individuals requires full commitment from all WDOC personnel and consistent collaboration with outside stakeholders that include: County Executive Latimer and his team, the Westchester Health Department, County Legislators, the State Commission of Correction, the Westchester Medical Center and many others. Our collective efforts continue to positively impact overall WDOC operations, our staff and those remanded into our care.”

 

The formal recognition of employees included Honorable Service Awards for all WDOC sworn staff, Certificates of Merit for all WDOC civilian employees and Unit Citations for the following:

The ceremony featured the Departments Ceremonial Honor Guard, the Westchester County Police Emerald Society’s Pipes and Drums, elected officials, County Department Heads, Union leadership and employee representatives from every level of the Department of Correction workforce.
