New York State Insider: Statement from New York State Senator Shelley Mayer 37th District.

Dear friends,

To all who observed Yom Kippur this week, I hope you had an easy and meaningful fast.

As I continue to walk with residents in areas affected by Hurricane Ida, some have expressed reluctance to apply for federal assistance because others have even greater needs. While the spirit of generosity is admirable, I encourage all those who suffered storm damage to apply for assistance. There is federal funding allocated to help when residents experience losses. More information on the assistance FEMA can provide is available below.

For those in Port Chester in need of assistance, a bilingual community meeting will be held at the Courthouse on Saturday. Representatives from FEMA, the Westchester County Department of Social Services and Red Cross will be on site. There will also be representatives to provide guidance on applying for the excluded workers fund.

I would also like to share with you that on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 9 a.m., I will be hosting a coffee and conversation at Barnes & Noble. Additionally, my virtual forum, “Combating Antisemitism,” which was postponed due to Ida-related power issues, has been rescheduled to Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 5 p.m.

As always, if there is anything my office can assist you with, please email me at smayer@nysenate.gov or call (914) 934-5250.

Warm regards,
Shelley B. Mayer
State Senator
37th District
