SENATOR ALESSANDRA BIAGGI ISSUES STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO THE TRAGIC DEATH OF RUTH MULLEN.
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of Ruth Mullen, an important voice, ally, and friend in the Riverdale community. I want to extend my most heartfelt condolences to Ruth’s husband Jim, daughters Lia and Maya, family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.
Ruth was an outspoken community activist and longtime writer and copy editor from the Bronx. She was a firecracker in her own right, always committed to advocating for progressive change within our borough and across the state. A member of the Riverdale Huddle, Ruth always fought to better our community, and she inspired my leadership every single day.
I had the privilege of knowing and working with Ruth, and will always remember her as a committed, intelligent, passionate, and kind human being. I will especially remember the incredible effort she put into ensuring that the New York State Senate was able to gain a true Democratic majority. Ruth’s energetic presence and spirit will be sorely missed. We will honor Ruth’s memory by continuing to speak out in the face of injustice, speak up when we are fighting for progressive change, and to always do what is right.”
