More State Money For Our Libraries.
Libraries Are Today's Community Centers!
ALBANY, NY – Assemblymember Tom Abinanti announced today that the Hastings-on-Hudson and Warner Libraries will receive over $180,000 dollars in state aid from library construction funds to fix the Hastings roof ($88,000) and update the Warner elevator systems to be ADA compliant ($95,000).
The monies come from $14 million in capital funds for public library construction and broadband infrastructure projects included in the 2020-21 State Budget.
When he was Assembly Libraries Committee chair from 2015 to 2017, Abinanti helped increase the State budget funds for library aid and tens of thousands of dollars to assist libraries in ADA compliance and much needed structural renovations. He fought for more monies to help New York’s public libraries update their electronic technologies, expand their collections, and provide better public access. The Westchester Library System named him Library Champion in 2016.
In the 2021-22 State Budget, the Legislature provided $34 million for projects that will be announced in Summer 2022.
