MOUNT VERNON BEAUTY SHOP TO HOST FREE VACCINE CLINIC.

Part of Westchester County’s Efforts to Curb Vaccine Hesitancy.

(White Plains, NY) – In an ongoing effort to curb vaccine hesitancy among communities of color, The Essence of Beauty Shop in Mount Vernon is holding a free first-dose vaccine clinic.

Sunday, September 26

The Essence of Beauty Shop

36 West First Street

12 noon to 2 p.m.

Westchester County Executive George Latimer said: “This pandemic is not over and we want all Westchester County residents to remain safe and healthy as they adjust to the new normal. This clinic, in my hometown of Mount Vernon, will hopefully encourage residents to get their questions answered and get their shot.”

The Essence of Beauty Shop owner Claudette Gyles said: “I’ve had a lot of clients with a lot of questions and fears. I know Mount Vernon has a low vaccination rate, and I want to be able to do my part and help educate our community.”

Westchester County Health Commissioner Dr. Sherlita Amler said: “We are grateful to the beauty salon for looking out for the health of its clients and community by hosting a COVID-19 vaccine clinic. Increasing the vaccination rate in all our communities is the best protection we have against this disease.”

Residents will be able to receive the Moderna vaccine, if they are over the age of 18 and those who are over 12 will be give the Pfizer vaccine. No health insurance is required to receive the vaccine.

Currently, the County is at nearly 87.9% of its population of adults 18 and over with at least one vaccine dose.

Policy and Programs, Faith-Based and Urban Affairs Director Crystal Collins said: “Pop-up vaccination sites are very important for communities, especially those of color. These sites help create fact-based conversation, dissolve distortion and ease uncertainty about the science supporting COVID-19 vaccinations.”
