Here’s what we’re reading this week:
A Day On The Delaware
We recently co-hosted an event to connect elected officials, partners, and other stakeholders to each other and the Delaware River while elevating the need for funding for the watershed.
A New White House Report on Climate Justice
The White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council recently released a report on recommendations to improve federal climate and environmental justice policy. As work on climate recovery legislation picks up steam in Congress, the insights in this report are more important than ever.
NYLCV's president participated in the unveiling of five new battery-electric trucks in the South Bronx, the first in New York City, which will be part of a low-emission truck fleet to distribute beer. The new trucks will help reduce emissions and improve air quality air, particularly in a community overburdened by pollution. Photo Credit: NYC DOT (Press Release)
The U.S. Senate, under New York Senator Chuck Schumer's leadership, approved a budget resolution that clears the way for passing a $3.5 trillion aggressive Build Back Better climate recovery agenda. NYLCV is part of a national campaign to ensure that the legislation invests in clean energy, clean transportation, green jobs, and other programs while prioritizing environmental justice at the scale we need to jumpstart our economy and help avert a future climate crisis. A report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change shows that climate change is already fueling extreme weather due to human-caused emissions. This makes it even more essential to enact federal, state, and local policies that expand renewable energy, reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, prioritize environmental justice, create green, union jobs, and protect our natural areas.
