Wednesday was a very historic night for us all in the City of Yonkers. As a council, we were able to come together and host multiple Public Hearings, and pass legislation that will benefit the people of our city. During the Affordable Housing Ordinance Public Hearing, we heard very powerful stories and motivations supporting the need for increased affordable housing in the City of Yonkers. I would like to thank my colleagues on the City Council for voting to increase the number of units set aside for affordable housing in new developments from 10% to 20%. In addition to this ordinance, we were also able to pass legislation regarding Hotel Licensing, in which a licensing process will be set in place to ensure the good standing of hotels in our city and ensure they remain good neighbors to those in their community.
This week we held our last Council meeting of the 2020/2021 session, but will resume in September. Our offices will continue to be be open throughout the summer to serve our residents and we'll continue to hold community events for all, including mobile food pantries and an upcoming tennis clinic. We have a lot in store.
Best regards,
Hon. Corazon Pineda-Isaac
